How to give effective instructions to your kids

Keep instructions for things that are truly important to you, such as safety concerns. Instead of giving your youngster instructions, try to make cooperation enjoyable by turning routine things into challenges. Here are some simple tips for when you might need to give your kid instructions:

  • Approach your child's eye level and gently tap them on the shoulder. This can assist them in focusing their attention.

  • When giving a direction, make certain you have your child's full attention.

  • When instructing them, use simple words that they will understand and break tasks down into manageable steps.

  • If you want your youngster to do something, avoid asking some questions.

  • Be courteous and respectful.

  • During special playtime, demonstrate good listening skills and give your child positive attention for good listening.

Giving directions is useful in a variety of situations:

  1. Directions are useful when you want your youngster to accomplish something specific or to prevent your child from engaging in inappropriate or harmful behavior.

  2. Be sure to give your child enough time to complete the task at hand.

  3. Directions can help avoid inappropriate behavior

How to Give Good Directions

  • Activate your child's interest.

  • Explain to your child what you want him to DO rather than what you don't want him to do.

  • Examine compliance.
